This picture was taken after requesting consent and explaining it's purpose to the vaccinator and mother of the child. It is showing a vaccinator giving Rotarix vaccine with VVM label attached on the ampoule to a child during session. This was the first visit of a child to immunization services in the country.
Thank you Bonaventura for sharing the photo specially after getting consent from the mother and vaccinator to share the photo. I am just having one question, why the vaccinator is carrying more than 3 tubes of vaccine although he is vaccinating only one child
ReplyDeleteDear Naglaa, thanks for your observation. What happens is that many parents turn out for vaccinations. So, babies with their parents are lined up for every vaccine to be given.
DeleteHere the vaccinator was observed holding Rotavaccine on the hand, this practice is not allowed in the country.
After she finished the round we educated all vaccinators about it and the management effect likely to happen. So, it was solved
It is indeed interesting that the HCW has several vials in the hand. When I saw the picture the first time I thought the baby is receiving Oral polio vaccine then next will be rota in the other hand.Is the HCW giving several babies at one time with one type of vaccine, then pick another type of vaccine? Pressure of a busy clinic? But rota is a single dose?
ReplyDeleteDear Kwame, the field work is really tough and challenging for our HCWs.
DeleteThe vaccinator is giving Rotavaccine to several babies in the line. It is not recommended to vaccinate one child at a time. This was my observation, so lastly I was able to educate all vaccinators about the practice.
